Why have all my print queues disappeared?

Still mystified, but making a little progress - the print queues are
there but have changed their names! Two of the queues have had 
@server.billp.org appended to their names. The third queue, intended for
printing photo quality, is as it was before. Using the full name on
a print command does work, but is a pain to type. Tried calling up the
System->Printing panel, but that won't allow me to change the name.

One thing that it does allow, though is to specify a default! That works
and so 'lpr file.ps' is now working. Can anyone tell me how to set
it up so that the server name is not appended?

I know that it was not previously like this, as I've printed lots of
stuff since I moved over to Ubuntu.
