Apt-get: how to check version number before installation?

Just download en ubuntu iso image, and burn it into an install cd - any 
burning programs can burn iso files (an iso file is one big file).

This install file is a live cd - first you boot it, and ubuntu is running, and 
then you have the option to install it after, if you like.
