And we're telling you that NOW you need to.  Long ago, all the pilot tools
were set to default to /dev/pilot.  When USB came along, various techniques
were used to symlink /dev/pilot to the correct USB device (and you can
probably still see that in one of the /etc/udev/rules.d/ files), so it
would remain invisible to you.  However, now you will probably need to go
into your app's configuration and set the device to usb:

Precisely - which is why we keep telling you that you need to use "usb:".
