first, make sure that your hard disk is defragmented (because your going
to have to repartition and defragmenting should help minimize the risk
of data loss, if you dont feel safe with just that, backing up is always
a good option). 

you can purchase or download the powerpc version of ubuntu, (if you
downloaded it, burn it to a cd). Reboot the computer with the cd in,
press enter on the first option, then when its done booting, double
click install. Follow the instructions until a little window pops up
that says "Starting the partitioner". After that little window goes
away, select the option that has the little slider bar under it. Click
next then follow the directions again, then it will install. after that,
you will have a good working ubu installed on your system
