Current Ubuntu version of R is old

Well, isn't that odd:
$ apt-cache policy r-base
r-base:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2.5.1-1
  Version table:
     2.5.1-1 0
        500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com gutsy/universe Packages

On second thoughts it isn't odd - you've got a nice dedicated R (or at least
statistics) site, rather than an Ubuntu repository.  That's what I told him
to look for in the first place.  So I stand by my statement that he won't
get what he wants from gutsy.
