Hi Neils
My guess is this is the same thing that happened with my sata dvd drive a
while back
Try the following
open a terminal window
sudo modprobe piix
sudo update initramfs
Here I get: "bash: update: command not found"
if you can now see your hdd then edit your /etc/modules file and add a line
reading "piix" without the quotes of course
