linux-image-2.6.22-10-generic: Sound levels set to zero (on hardware?)

for all the people that are having sound issues with GUTSY's 2.6.22.10
kernel

please do the following and your issues should be resolved.

"sudo apt-get install module-assistant
sudo m-a update
sudo m-a prepare
sudo m-a a-i alsa"
