Hi Jack,
AFAIK ark (which is just a front end for a bunch of compression/extraction
programs doesn't allow for passwords. The "zip" program does do encryption
cum password protection. zip -e will encrypt the file(s) and prompt you for
a password. rar -p with also password protect your archive. Both zip and
rar only run on the command line, at least the linux, free (as in beer)
versions that I have.
