Label external hard drive?

I used GParted to format an external drive with a single ext3 partition.

I also want to label it so it doesn't just show up as "disk" when it's
automounted.

How do I do that?

There was a  lengthy thread on this in this forum recently.
Have a search through the archves on this thread is there
