I think I covered a few decent reason as to why Ubuntu is slower (in
some users eyes) then other Linux distros.

Might want to read it again - but for the sake of you NOT wanting to
take the time to read it

"I (my own opinion) don't feel Ubu is made to be a barn burner. I
(again, my opinion) feel it's made to move Windows users away from
Windows. Giving them all possible OSS alternatives to try to make them
feel a bit more confy while allowing them to graduate slowly into the
Linux/Unix world."

That being said, allow me to break that down even further - to allow
Windows users to feel more at home, perhaps it's needed to include
everything (even the kitchen sink) in a distro to make that happen.

If you remove the facets that attract the Windows users - you have
nothing more then another vanilla distro of Linux.

In order to have a "nitch" you need to find something and produce
something that no other distro has or is willing to do - this is why
Ubuntu has done so well recently.

They found an audience, and they are delivering.

And if that audience prefers Windows-ish look/feel (more like ease
of use and similar to Windows) then they don't mind the extras that
make it that much easier.
