I suggest that you start reading the HIG guidelines before designing your
GUI applications.
I recommend this website to anyone designing GUI it's been really much help
for me.

I agree that most of us like GUI.
I think GUI is an artwork itself that displays information at the same time,
and Linux isn't lacking GUI applications, it just doesn't have much artists.
