Logitech Quickcam

I am attempting to install a Logitech "QuickCam Deluxe for Notebooks" 
and not having much success. 

Laptop is running feisty

When plugged in, /dev/video0 exists, and
$lsusb returns
Bus 004 Device 005: ID 046d:09c1 Logitech, Inc.
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 

I found an article referring to a similar cam that suggested that the 
spca5xx driver is correct.  In which case it should work "out of the 
box" . . . but does not.  A web search, however returns this page 
suggesting that the"UVC" driver is correct: http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/

I'm not quite sure what to do next.

Any thoughts?
