32bit multimedia software on 64bit Linux?

That's what I was afraid of.
This system must run multimedia stuff seamlessly, so I'd rather not do 
weird hacks.

OTOH, I wonder if MPEG2/DVD encoding (via mjpegtools), which is 
something I do often, wouldn't run slightly faster on a native 64 bit 
OS. It probably depends on the way the encoder is written, I guess.

Fortunately, I don't do any scientific calculations or anything like 
that, which would pretty much require a 64 bit machine with lots of RAM.
