Installing proftpd

I think you need to make ProFTP run in Daemon mode. I *think* there is a 
file in /etc/defaults for proftp, try editing this and telling it to run 
as a daemon, or to listen.

Sorry I can't be more specific, it's years since I ran proftpd, recently 
I favour vsftpd.
