32bit multimedia software on 64bit Linux?

I am using the amd64 Feisty 7.04 Ubuntu on a amd64 laptop.

Still cannot play DVD movies or use the built in camera, I have ran the
install/configure gauntlet more than once.

For now I don't use the 64bit system for Movies or the Web Cam.

Java plugin for firefox 64bit does not work,

if I try update.java.alternatives -s with java-6-sun I am ok for what I
need, java-gcj works also but not for what i need
all the other java flavors have an error for example "file does not
exist: /usr/lib/jvm/.jdk1.6.0.jinfo"

Everything works fine on my 32b it system with the 32bit Ubuntu.
