log into x as root

i concur. The root mode was designed mainly for system admins, which 
allows them unlimited access to linux. It is best not to use root that 
often as you can do perminant damage to your ubuntu. But if you want to 
give yourself more privilages, then it would be ok to log into root mode 
and give your account more privilages.
