    Linux tends to be pretty secure by itself; it doesn't come with open
holes, and if one slips in, patches are applied. (thus the default)

    All the suggestions you got are good; they all use iptables at their
core as far as I know, which means kernel-level protection, and that's good.

    _Inside_ a trusted zone...like your house, behind a firewall, you
probably won't need it. But if you use one, realize that you'll have to
open it to get things...like remote printing...to work.
