kernel hang while setting up linux-image-2.6.15-28-server

Hello all,
I have a pc running dapper server edition. The last kernel security
update didn't succeed (linux-image-2.6.15-28-server): it updated grub
then hangs (no keyboard at all, no ssh login) after printing "installing
linux-image-2.6.15-28-server".
I had to hard-reboot the computer.
After that, I don't understand why, but none of the grub entries
(2.6.15-26, 27 and 28) succeeded to boot, even in recovery mode.
I started on a live CD, did nothing, restarted again and then I could
start a recovery kernel (this really sounds magical) and eventually get
my computer running again with linux-image-2.6.15-27-server.
When I try to "aptitude reinstall linux-image-2.6.15-28-server", the
same problem arises again.
I found no "verbose" option for dpkg --reconfigure and I had a look at
linux-image-2.6.15-28-server.deb scripts but they are cryptic to me.
I found nothing relevent in the logs, but maybe I'm looking at the bad
place.
I'm totally puzzled now, does anybody here have an explanation or a
methodology to understand what is going on ?
Thanks !
