Hello!
I am offering a recently purchased ACER computer to my mother. AMD64
3200+, 512mb DDR2, some old Creative PCI sound card and onboard NVIDIA
video. An upgrade from the P3 500mhz 128ram running Mandrake 7.x from 2
years ago.
I am trying to install Ubuntu on it and i run into several problems. Can
anyone please help me out?
First problem, i can't install nvidia drivers, it crashes X and error
says no nvidia devices detected. Maybe i need to install legacy drivers?
It's an 7150 graphic chip i think.
My second problem, there's no sound. No sound hardware detected. I get
that message with both the onboard sound and with the PCI sound blaster
card install.
My third problem, i can't set the refresh rate higher than 60hz! help me
get it to 85hz PLEASE! my eyes are bleeding here lol
My lesser problems, the boot ubuntu image is like black and white and
the status bar is not right. Why? How can i set myself as admin and have
her password less account login auto by default?
EDIT: I checked the system info window and most of my hardware is
UNKNOWN. Why?
Thank you!
