Can 't install Ubuntu

I have a ubuntu 6.10 disk with which I am trying to install Ubuntu in a Dell
Inspiron 1150. It has 256 Meg Ram.

I have no floppy, but I have a CD. I have 2 USB ports, one of which is
occupied with a mouse. The graphics is a standard Intel chip set used for
these portables.

I tried both normal and safe mode. Safe goes a little further.

Ubuntu loads and I see an icon that says install. When I click on it, I get
a drop down that has a label on it that says, "Install". I click on that,
and the CD start whirring. After about 15 minutes, the systems appears to
hang. There is no apparent activity and mouse is hung.

I posted a note in the forums and was advised to try an alternative disk. I
downloaded this and tried to burn it and load it, but I must have done
something wrong, because it didn't boot at all.

I am totally inexperienced with Linux, my experience is in application
development, not OS's anyway. So I am lost and would appreciate any help
you can give me.

Regards,

Al
