As a guy in your shoes, I'd *love* an IDE, as well as the background
to go with it. One of the things that vaulted DOS->Windows was a couple
of decent IDEs; applications even came with them for their own
languages, like Dbase3+, Foxbase, those kinda guys. There were cottage
industries that sprung up all over, during these early years.
Linux needs that.
Under (sco) Unix, I developed for Informix in their 4GL package...now
THAT was a fun challenge. Great reporting, easy form creation,
validation, just a huge chest of building blocks to make applications
that really did things.
I've been waiting for something like this, too, for GTK; most seem to
require more C/C++ knowledge than I have time to learn. Don't get me
wrong: this is a really cool set of Windows-friendly libraries and a
great way to make real, honest-to-goodness apps....it's just got a lot
of details.
...or at least it always has, while I've been looking at'em. If
anyone knows of something like this, please let us know!
