Okay, open the folder ~/.mozilla . ~ is your home directory. You
should see at least one folder there with either the name "Default User"
or a name that looks random. If you're not sure, tell me what's there
and I'll help you. Make sure Firefox is closed. Then open
~/.mozilla/firefox/profiles.ini after making a backup copy. Replace the
file with:

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0]
Name=matthew
IsRelative=0
Path=/home/richard/.mozilla/profilefolder
Default=1

richard should be your username, and profilefolder should be the folder
name I mentioned earlier. The profile manager may come up when you
start Firefox. Just make sure "Don't ask at startup" is checked, then
click "Start Firefox".

.  Open it

That would work, but you should just be able to use the version in your
old profile.
