unfortunately, k/ubuntu is not debian :(.
It is faster to reinstall -- compared to upgrade.
Just make sure; that you have a copy of:
/etc; /home; /root; /usr/local; and a set file of
dpkg --get-selections > /save/directory/get-selections.txt
