Open up the properties of the Firefox icon you normally use with a right
click and then select "Properties" on the popup, or edit the menu item
if you fire it up from there. Click on the "Application" tab. In the
"Command" box you will see:

firefox %u

Eliminate the "%u" and Firefox should start up normally once again.

However, you may (or may not) run into a small problem with some other
program that calls Firefox. You might not get to the URL of the link you
clicked on in the other program. If this "pass the URL" feature is
important to you, you can instead rename your $HOME/.mozilla/firefox dir
and start all over again, moving your bookmarks, cookies, forms and
other data files back into the new directory when you are confident that
the normal command line works okay.
