When you edit the config file, it affects the boot that reads the file.
Ok, that's probably obvious, but what is going on is that each daemon
reads it's config when it starts -- and they each start at boot. But at
least some daemons can be killed and restarted w/o re-booting (maybe
all?) Frankly that is one of the little details that I think makes a
*nix system so useful. Something not working? Fix it on the fly.
If there are serious exceptions to that rule, maybe someone can mention
them, or let us know if I'm grossly wrong.
