No excuse.  If you try to write to an unmounted partition, it's acceptable
if the tool mounts it, but you can't just write randomly.  If you could
tell him where the files _were_ written, that would also be acceptable, but
any program that writes data to a location that can't be discovered isn't
doing its job.
