It is for playing avi files etc.  Thing is I don't have windows but do
watch a lot of avi files.  Its a pity, the reason I chose Ubuntu was
to stop spending days getting things that work in windows out of the
box working.

! scropped between Cpu(s) and Cpu0.  They do seem to be showing
different info.  Is This correct?

I too am a fan of gkrellm.  Running it does not seem to show multiple
CPUs and cant find anything in settings.
