Blender crashes (due to Beryl??)

Hi,

Blender was working fine for me until yesterday. Now if I start it, it
crashes the X server, the screen goes blank, and I'm thrown back to the
login screen.

Here is my setup:
Ubuntu (Edgy, 32-bit)
AMD Turion X2 (64 bit)
NVidia GeForce Go 6150
NVidia driver version 1.0-9746

Blender started misbehaving after I made the following 2 changes:
 - Installed Beryl. Beryl was very glitchy, so I didnt use it. I even tried
   uninstalling Beryl, but Blender still crashes.
 - Installed Ubuntu updates
I did both of the above simultaneously, so I am not sure which is the
culprit, although Beryl is the likely one.
