I have similiar experiences with this, too.  Since my experiences are
pretty much dated (those were pre-woody times), I thought things might
be improved nowadays.

Currently, I am about to move from suse to ubuntu.  I must admit that
I was a little bit disappointed that video detection seems still to
have some flaws.
