installation of ubuntu on core2duo system with sata hard disk

Dear Sir,
I have an assembled system with the following configuration:
Core2Duo processor E6300
946Intel Mother Board
512MB DDR2 RAM
80GB Western Digital HardDisk
Combo drive

When I try to install Ubuntu I Cannot load it and the system hangs.
How to go about it
