Nvidia driver version mis-match keeps X from running

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to try a clean slate this
weekend(wipe out and reinstall). If that fails I'm going to get a new
video card. Maybe it's having a breakdown of some sort. How do
hardware breakdowns manifest themselves?
