Format extended partition?

That worked. I now have an ext3 formatted partition. But when I click on 
"places-computer" and then on my 101Gb volume I get an error: "Unable to 
mount selected volume" and "error: device /dev/hdb3 is not removable" and 
"error: could not execute pmount".
