That depend on which partition you have defined in your mbr.

I have meant to change the corresponding entry in _that_ menu.lst to let
it point to the symlinks in root of the other system.
whether this is in your edgy or your dapper system i can´t tell.
But both directions will work.

$ l /mnt/edgy/
... initrd.img -> boot/initrd.img-2.6.17-7-generic
... vmlinuz -> boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-7-generic
