The Portland Project is a freedesktop initiative that makes sure that the
freedesktop configurations integrates well across all different desktops and
applications. So no matter what desktop you use, you still come up with the
same functionality the application is trying to do.
This helps developers and isv's to create software without worrying about
what desktop it will be installed.

However, I have done a test on Edgy Eft about this, and Edgy got 25 test
failed. So Dapper and Edgy is incompliance with the initiative.
