here on edgy, there's a file 

	.gstreamer-0.10/registry.i486.xml

which contains

<plugin>
 <name>faac</name>
 <description>Free AAC Encoder (FAAC)</description>
 <filename>/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstfaac.so</filename>
.... lots of stuff
</plugin>

also theres a little program 'gst-inspect-0.10' which spits out some
info on gst-plugins.

do they exist in dapper too?
