Gnome's "Save" dialog - "Browse for other folders"

Hello everybody,

Is there a way to set the default behaviour of Gnome's save dialog for
the "Browse for other folders" option to "expanded"?
To put it bluntly: I am so desperately missing especially this option
(besides a consistent copy and paste behaviour) that I am eventually
considering to switch to KDE.
The Gnome developers have decided to go for this design quite a while
ago already, but as far as I could see, there has never been a switch
anywhere to change the default behaviour of this IMHO very central user
interface.

I am well aware that this actually is a Gnome topic. Nevertheless, I am
posting it to this list hoping for the Ubuntu developers' urge for an
improved user interface (and remembering that you have already changed
the default behaviour of Nautilus' spatial mode).

Many thanks in advance,
Markus

Too many wrongly characterize the debate as "security versus privacy."
The real choice is liberty versus control.
