Even when running an operating system under a virtualization system,
the performance should be very decent. In fact, VMWare Workstation
offers really good performance provided that you have enough RAM to
run the host (the one that runs natively) and the guest (the one that
runs virtualized).

I do this all them time and performance is good enough to use both at
the same time and being productive.
