MythTV -- recording ends prematurely?

I can't help with mythtv in particular, but I do know that some shows
and stations play games with starting a bit early or running a bit
late - I believe it started to annoy people using Tivo, mythtv, etc.
The Simpsons, in particular, is a flagrant example.

The other reason some stations do it is to keep you on the same
channel.  If you want to watch the end of show XYZ on channel A, you
will miss the first minute of show RST on channel B, so you might as
well watch the next show on the same channel.
