Quite right, there are three prerequisites for installing an unmodified
OS such as WinXP via Xen.

1) A CPU that supports VT (or AMD's SVM), per
http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/HVM_Compatible_Processors
2) A compatible motherboard
3) Support from the manufacturer, usually in a BIOS setting where you
can enable VT.

There are reports that the Xen developers have modified WinXP to work in
a paravirtualized environment, but licensing prevents them from
releasing it.
