Issues with udev

Hello, I test Andrew Morton's development kernel tree. With recent
development kernel revisions (2.6.18-rc5-mmN) I found that udev
was failing to create device nodes for several devices (ALSA, etc).
I finally discovered that I could work around the problem if I built
and installed the latest udev from source (currently, udev 100).
The only problem is that the latest udev code seems unhappy
with some of the Ubuntu udev rules. Any suggestions on how
to fix these? Also, any idea when Ubuntu's udev packages will
become more up-to-date? We currently have "udev 079-0ubuntu34".
Thanks, --Miles
