Samba - access denied?

Hi,
I shared a folder by right-clicking on it and then selecting SHARE. I
told it to share using samba and various items were installed on my
system, this completed without a problem (I checked the terminal
output).
I checked my firewall (firestarter) allowed samba to be used on the LAN
network. I left the samba settings at their defaults as I don't really
know what I'm doing. Now my other computers on the LAN can see the
ubuntu samba server under the workgroup settings, but when
double-clicking on the server to view the shared folders it says
something along the lines of "dappersambaserver// is not accessible. You
might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator to find out if you have access permissions".
I was hoping to achieve basic user authentication on it, but at the
moment I can't seem to even connect properly.
