Either use "dpkg --purge <packagename>", or use "_" (purge) instead of
"-" (remove) on a package while in aptitude. You might as well remove
all the configuration files manually, but that's not generally
desirable... ;)

However, looking at your problem, perhaps an "apt-get -f install" also
might help...
