Dapper complete system freeze---could be 'ati' driver or epiphanybrowser

I had random, unpredictable freezes running dapper on my Thinkpad T30. I
use an ATI graphic card. I'm told there is a feature in dapper that is
enabled by default, which does not play nicely with the ATI card. The
fix, which I followed, and which seems to have worked is this:



Edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

Under Section "Device", add:



Option "RenderAccel" "0"

Use the quotation marks in the edit.



Save and reboot.



I've had no freezes in two weeks.
