switch to a laptop to save power and I don't quite understand the
"irresponsibility" part unless of course it's my mail server. :-)
as for fetching your e-mail, there is nothing you have described which
requires a 24 x 7 uptime. You run whatever fetching utility you want
when the machine is on otherwise, just let e-mail collect in your
inboxes. If you need to, map the three accounts to three separate
userids on your desktop.
If you are using your home machine as a delivery target for e-mail,
there are lots of hosting providers that offer pop3 only accounts for
only a few dollars a month.
if these suggestions don't meet your needs, could you try again
describing what you're trying to do?
