ATI dual head problem

i have a AMD athlon 3000+, ATI radeon x700, with the repos driver installed.
3D games work alright, not quite 100%. my xgl doesnt work for some strange
reason. i have a 17" LCD & 17" CRT. i plugged both in but all that happened
was that the screens both mirror each other "Clone Mode". in the ATI Control
Panel, under the "Desktop Setup" tab i keep clicking "Big Desktop
Horizontal" radio button & then apply but nothing changes :<

i restart, because it sais i should restart the x server, but that doesnt
help iether.

what i would actually like is a extened desktop, which is "Big Desktop
Horizontal"

any suggestions?
