Hello,
On a Debian Etch system, running 2.6.16 kernel, if I connect an external
USB DVD writer (Samsung, SE-S164L), I see in /var/log/syslog:
Sep 5 22:54:49 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device
using uhci_hcd and address 12
Sep 5 22:54:49 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from

deprecated, will be removed and is unlikel
y to work correctly. Don't use it.
which means that it is detected and given a device name of /dev/sr0. If
I open k3b, it shows the external writer in its list of optical devices
(although "cdrecord -scanbus dev=ATAPI" does not list the external
writer -- due to ATAPI?).
However, if I put in a CD or DVD with data on it, KDE does not give me a
message window asking what to do with the disk (as it does if I put in a
disc in an internal writer or reader).
My USB sticks get mounted, cameras get mounted, but a disc with data in
the external dvd writer does not get mounted. What am I missing here?
thanks,
->HS
