which version of skype do you use?
The actual stable version 1.2 doesn't use alsa, it use /dev/dsp.

You may want to try skype 1.3 which use it.

maybe it should solve your problem.
If not, can you send screenshots of your mixer ?
what is the model of your computer ? is you mic an integrated one or 
external ?
