install intel dapper

did an install of latest ubuntu intel OS. installed as low memory installation (64 in my laptop) installed ok but now i get a DOS type prompt at boot. I can get in using my log on and password but then I have no idea how to finish the installation and have searched all the help files i can find. any help would be appreciated, thanks, dave
