I have a radeon 9250 too... no problem with VMWare (not really relevant anyway, I think)
However I have "only" 768MB of RAM, and barely enough for VMWare. I just started Ubuntu in VMWare 5 minutes ago (with also Ubuntu as the host), and when I left VMWare, I have 200MB on the swap !!
So with only 256MB of RAM, I wish you good luck ! ;-/
Consider adding at least a 512MB memory stick... and if you want to run two instances of VMWare at the same time, well I would rather have over one GB of RAM... minimum.
Your CPU is fast enough though, I think. My machine is an old 1,5GHz AMD Athlon and it works okay with VMWare (a bit slow with a Linux VM, but fine with Windows XP). So with a 2.0GHz CPU I assume it would be just fine.
So in short, CPU and video card are fine... but you need to add at least 512MB of RAM...
