Explain a little more, what are you trying to use ? A real file in say firefox 
or a ram file you have downloaded and want to play. Personally I am losing 
any confidence in the ubuntu team to incorporate third party apps. For 
instance firefox and flash crash in edgy without modifications to 
the /usr/bin/firefox script then in kubuntu it hides all of the directories
